Occupational Therapy

The occupational therapist at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice works as part of the rehabilitation team.

The team works with patients and their loved ones, with the aim to improve quality of life and maintain, where possible, patient independence.

Support is provided at home or at the hospice, and treatment will depend on the needs of the individual patient.

Advice is given on techniques to minimise the impact of symptoms, such as fatigue and breathlessness on your everyday life, and alternative approaches are found for activities that you do each day but are maybe beginning to struggle with.

Relaxation methods are introduced for anxiety, and advice offered on how to improve sleep.

A falls risk assessment is carried out, with help given to reduce the risk of falls within your home and local community.

The introduction of daily living aids may be useful to help maintain your independence but this is not always needed, and any introduction of aids will be discussed and provided with your agreement.

The occupational therapist at Glasgow's Hospice will always support your continued independence in tasks that are important to you as our overall aim is to help you remain independent for as long as possible, and for you to be able to do the regular things that are important to you.

More information about our occupational therapy service is provided in our downloadable leaflet.
