Volunteering at Glasgow's Hospice

Our Volunteers Are Vital

Volunteering at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice offers an incredible opportunity to make a meaningful difference to patients, their families, and the wider community. Whether you’re looking to give back, gain new skills, or become part of a community-driven environment, our hospice offers a variety of volunteer roles to suit everyone. By joining our volunteer team, you can help in our hospice, shops, warehouse, or support fundraising efforts.

If you’re ready to make a real impact, this could be your chance. Here's why our volunteers are vital to the success of our hospice and how you can get involved.

Where You Can Volunteer

1. At the Hospice

Volunteering at the hospice offers a wide range of roles. From helping in our Bargacree café to assisting in our fundraising department, you will play a crucial part in making sure our patients and families feel supported. You might also choose to become a driver, a complementary therapist, or even help maintain the beautiful gardens on the hospice grounds. Every role, big or small, contributes to the warm, compassionate environment that the hospice is known for.

Benefits of Volunteering at the Hospice:

  • A comprehensive introduction to the hospice and the charitable sector.
  • Flexibility, so your role fits in with your lifestyle and personal commitments.
  • Meeting new people and becoming part of the local community.
  • Development of transferable skills like communication, teamwork, and time management.
  • Certification confirming your volunteering work and skills achieved.
  • An enhancement to your CV, with employment references available on request.

2. In Our Hospice Shops

Our 17 hospice shops across Glasgow and Greater Glasgow are at the heart of our fundraising efforts. These shops wouldn’t be able to run smoothly without the support of our retail volunteers. By assisting the shop manager, you’ll learn valuable customer service skills, working a till, and understanding stock management—from pricing and displaying items to selling them effectively.

What You’ll Gain:

  • Hands-on experience in the retail sector.
  • A deep understanding of how to evaluate and manage stock.
  • Experience working as part of a close-knit team.
  • The satisfaction of knowing that every item sold directly supports patient and family care.

3. In Our Warehouse

Our warehouse plays a crucial role in managing stock for our shops. Volunteers help with sorting donations, ensuring items are ready to be displayed in the shops, and assisting with logistics. If you’re looking for a more hands-on role, volunteering in our warehouse might be the perfect fit.

4. As a Fundraising Volunteer

Do you enjoy event planning or engaging with the public? Becoming a fundraising volunteer might be the perfect role for you. Our fundraising efforts are essential in maintaining the high level of care we provide, and you could help organise and run events or even work with local businesses and communities to gather support.

Why Volunteer With Us?

Flexibility to Suit Your Lifestyle

One of the best parts about volunteering at the hospice is that it’s incredibly flexible. Whether you can offer a few hours a month or want to commit to more regular involvement, we will work around your availability. This makes it easy to balance your volunteer work with personal and professional commitments.

Meet New People

Volunteering is a great way to expand your social circle and meet people who share similar values. You’ll not only be giving back to the community, but you’ll also be part of a team that’s passionate about making a difference.

Gain Skills and Experience

Whether you’re a student looking to boost your CV, someone seeking a career change, or a retiree wanting to stay active, volunteering at Glasgow’s Hospice provides an opportunity to develop new skills in a supportive environment. From customer service and teamwork in our shops to administrative and event management skills in our fundraising roles, you’ll leave with valuable experience that could benefit your future career.

For businesses or groups interested in corporate social responsibility, we also offer opportunities for organisations to volunteer as a group. This is an excellent way to promote team-building while giving back to the community.
