Children & young people
The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice provides holistic, specialised palliative care to people who have a life-limiting illness and their families. The Butterfly and STAGES Service is part of the Family Support Service which is a multi-disciplinary team who provide practical and emotional care to children, young people and their families both pre and post bereavement. We apply a holistic approach that encompasses the whole family, offering a bespoke range of supports that can be tailored to individual needs.
In society, there is still a taboo around talking about death and dying. Children and young people are often hidden grievers. The hospice offers the Butterfly Service for children up to the age of 12 years old and STAGES service for 12-21 year old's. Parent support can also be provided. We also provide a peer mentoring service for bereaved young people. The ethos of the CYP services to build confidence and self esteem and resilience.
